Ulli Blobel reads from "Sketches of Spain" at the music school
A reading with music by Uwe Kropinski (guitar) and Joe Sachse (guitar)
On 22 September 2016, 19:30, Ulli Blobel will be a guest in the concert hall of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School. He will be reading from his book "Sketches Of Spain", in which he tells artist stories from El Andaluz. Musicians Uwe Kropinski and Joe Sachse have written new pieces especially for the reading. The sketches combine their very personal guitar style with Spanish guitar tradition. Admission costs 12 euros in advance (concessions 10 euros) and 15 euros at the box office (concessions 12 euros). Tickets are available at the Städtische Musikschule Chemnitz, Gerichtsstraße 1 during office hours.
Ulli Blobel is the founder of Jazzwerkstatt Peitz, now a label operator, publisher and festival director from Berlin. "Sketches Of Spain" are stories about Andalusia, about Miles Davis and about artists. Many of Spain's most famous artists, including Pablo Picasso, Manuel de Falla, Andres Segovia, Federico Garcia Lorca and Paco de Lucia, were born in Andalusia - none of them made their career there. The stories about El Andaluz, the history itself and what Miles Davis has to do with it are wide-ranging themes. The author combines the seemingly unrelated in his stories and thus creates a picture of Andalusia and its artists. Simply and solidly told, the stories are intended to arouse the reader's interest in Spanish music, art and Andalusia.
Uwe Kropinski, the "guitarist of the century", according to the Stuttgarter Zeitung, has been inundated with superlatives and yet words are not enough to describe what he really has to offer musically. You simply have to experience him, especially as a duo, when he plays with his partner Joe Sachse, the "wizard" on the electric guitar.
