Two new traffic lights go into operation
New traffic lights at the Heinrich-Schütz-Straße/Zietenstraße junction and at the Palmstraße/Hainstraße junction - road users please note the changes associated with the commissioning, particularly with regard to right of way
The new traffic lights at the Heinrich-Schütz-Straße/Zietenstraße junction will go into operation this morning (19 June).
Road users are asked to be prepared for the following changes: Left-turningtraffic in the course of Zietenstraße will be lane-signalised and thus guided safely. The right of way will be changed so that Heinrich-Schütz-Straße is now designated as a priority road when it goes into operation today.
The lane markings will be adapted accordingly. Hazard signs will indicate the changed right of way for a period of three months. Irrespective of this, according to information from the responsible civil engineering office, the traffic lights will continue to operate continuously for reasons of road safety.
When the new traffic lights go into operation, the following changes to the equipment and control system will also be implemented: The pedestrian fords are equipped with dummy tone signals and all signal heads with LEDs. CVAG vehicles are given priority.
The new traffic lights at the Palmstraße/Hainstraße junction are also expected to go into operation at the beginning of the 27th calendar week. This system will have the same equipment as the system at Heinrich-Schütz-Straße/Zietenstraße.
Road users are requested to pay attention to the changed traffic situation at the Palmstraße/Hainstraße junction: Left turners in the course of Palmstraße coming from Thomas-Mann-Platz will be safely guided by lane signalling, and the right of way will also be changed here: Palmstraße will become a priority road.
About the construction project: The contractor is Swarco Systems, Leipzig branch. The construction costs for both traffic lights totalled €74,000.
Changes to the right of way: The changes to the right of way were made on the basis of the administrative regulations of the StVO. Current traffic counts have shown that Palmstraße and, further down the road, Heinrich Schütz-Straße have significantly higher traffic volumes than Hainstraße and Zietenstraße. Traffic regulations at junctions should be such that it is easy for road users to behave correctly. It is in the interests of safety if the regulation corresponds to the natural behaviour of road users. Roads that have right of way over a longer distance and have priority at numerous junctions should be designated as priority roads. With the change in the right of way at the two junctions, the entire Schloßteichstraße, Müllerstraße, August-Bebel-Straße, Palmstraße, Heinrich-Schütz-Straße road, with the exception of the junction with Dresdner Straße (federal road), is given right of way.
The above-mentioned lane signalling can be traced back to decisions made by the accident commission. Both intersections have been identified as accident blackspots by the Chemnitz police department. The traffic authority of the city of Chemnitz asks road users to pay attention to the new traffic situation.
