Two European students are travelling to Antwerp on behalf of the City of Chemnitz to exchange experiences
On behalf of the City of Chemnitz, the two Chemnitz European students Jana Baisch (right in photo) and Maria Schnabel (left in photo) are travelling to Antwerp from 29 to 31 August 2013 to exchange experiences. As part of the EUROCITIES network of cities, of which the city of Chemnitz is an active member, young people from various European cities developed the "10 steps for a European youth culture" back in 2003. Now the "Young People and Culture" working group in the EUROCITIES Cultural Forum is working together with young people from the "new generation" to update the document.
The trip is being organised by the EU Office of the City of Chemnitz and the city's cultural office.
Jana Baisch already organised the "my city, my view" exhibition last year in 2012. As part of this project, young people also analysed the paper drawn up in Stockholm in 2003. Maria Schnabel incorporated the opinions of various young people into the overall paper and presented the Chemnitz version at the Kulturforum.
Now the city of Antwerp has invited young people from the EUROCITIES member cities to a workshop in Antwerp to give them the opportunity to contribute their ideas on the creativity and participation of young people in cultural life in European cities. In Antwerp, the young people will experience and participate in interactive masterclasses, workshops and discussions on the "10 steps towards a European youth culture". In addition, the young people will have the opportunity to get to know the city of Antwerp better and take part in the "Villanova Art Festival".
EUROCITIES:
The city of Chemnitz is a member of the EUROCITIES network, which provides a public international platform for ambitious cities looking to the future. The approximately 140 members currently include Chemnitz's twin cities Düsseldorf, Ljubljana, Łódź, Manchester and Tampere. EUROCITIES is a recognised player at the European Commission for the development of policies and funding programmes with an urban focus. Projects and statements are developed and experiences exchanged in the six specialised forums on culture, economic development, environment, knowledge society, mobility and social affairs. The member cities are continuously informed about opportunities to participate in projects and funding programmes. The City of Chemnitz has been regularly represented in the cultural forum of the EUROCITIES network of cities by the City of Chemnitz's cultural office as a specialised unit since 2007.
