Two concerts with the violinist and pianist Kolja Lessing
Municipal Music School: Performances on 12 and 14 January as part of the master class
On Friday and Sunday, 12 and 14 January, interested parties are invited to public concerts in the concert hall of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School, Gerichtsstraße 1. The well-known violinist and pianist Kolja Lessing will be giving these as part of a three-day masterclass.
Admission to the concerts is free.
On Friday 12 January at 7 pm, a reading concert will take place in the concert hall of the music school. Works by Gabriel Fauré, Richard Wagner, Alexander Skriabin and Max Reger will be performed, accompanied by amusing texts from the book "Im tastenden Bogen", which Kolja Lessing recently published. Kolja Lessing will also accompany violin students on the piano with pieces from "Geigen Krämchen" by Krzysztof Meyer.
On Sunday, 14 January at 4 pm, the participants of the masterclass will give a short concert followed by a screening of the film "Ferne Klänge", which is about Kolja Lessing's commitment to music in exile.
About Kolja Lessing:
As one of the most versatile musicians of our time, Kolja Lessing has given formative impulses to musical life as a violinist and pianist through his combination of interpretative and academic work. Through his efforts, Georg Philipp Telemann's violin fantasias and Johann Paul Westhoff's violin suites, for example, have been rediscovered for the concert hall.
Internationally acclaimed CD productions document this stylistically differentiated approach to repertoire from the Baroque to the modern era, which includes both standard works and rarities. Kolja Lessing's worldwide concert and recording activities as a violinist and pianist include collaborations with leading orchestras as well as various chamber music projects.
In recognition of his commitment to ostracised composers, he received the Johann Wenzel-Stamitz Special Prize in 1999. In 2008, he was honoured with the German Critics' Prize for Music. In 2015, he received the Otto Hirsch Award from the state capital of Stuttgart.
The concerts and the course weekend are a cooperation project between the Städtische Musikschule, the Sächsische Mozartgesellschaft, the Verein der Freunde und Förderer der Städtischen Musikschule Chemnitz e.V. and the Buntmacher*innen.
