Media skills project at Chemnitz Adult Education Centre starts in September
Under the title "trau.schau.wem? - faktenfest und mediensicher", the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre is launching a multi-year project in September to strengthen media skills. It is aimed at all interested citizens.
"Trust, look, who?" As well-known as the saying is, its meaning is just as relevant in this day and age of information overload: check who you trust! However, this is not always easy given the abundance of news. Which information is reliable, which is fake news?
Orientation is needed in the media jungle. That's why the adult education centre is focusing its first project on information and news literacy. Understanding how the media works and knowing how journalists work is essential for this. The second focus of the media literacy project is education on digitalisation and dealing with media. In order to explore potentials and risks, both social and individual media use will be critically reflected upon and scrutinised.
With a varied programme of workshops, lectures and discussions as well as encounters in editorial offices and studios, the adult education centre would like to offer opportunities for information and exchange on the one hand and contribute to objectifying the debate on the role of the media in the society of democratic states on the other.
The project is aimed at all interested citizens of Chemnitz. Special programmes are aimed specifically at parents, teachers, senior citizens, people with disabilities and migrants.
Various local and regional media, including Freie Presse, MDR, Radio Chemnitz, SachsenFernsehen and Tag24, have been enlisted as co-operation partners. Associations, clubs, media education stakeholders, neighbourhood centres, citizens' platforms and senior citizens' facilities are also involved.
The project is made possible by funding from the Saxon State Authority for Private Broadcasting and New Media (SLM), which has been approved until the end of 2023.
To kick off the project, Dresden media expert Peter Stawowy will be a guest at the TIETZ on 16 September 2021 at 7 pm . In his lecture, the respected journalist, blogger, author and consultant (FLURFUNK, MEDIEN360G) will talk about the changes in the media industry and the growing importance of media skills.
