Tropical house at the zoo temporarily closed
Wildlife park: new offspring among the bison
From Monday 21 September, the Tropical House at Chemnitz Zoo will have to remain closed for an estimated three weeks for technical reasons. This is due to necessary construction and maintenance work.
In preparation for this, the bird species living in the free-flight hall will be removed and housed behind the scenes. As it is therefore not possible to walk around the hall, it will also not be possible to enter the building today and tomorrow, 17 and 18 September.
However, it will be possible to visit the tropical house next weekend, 19 and 20 September.
The spider monkeys, pygmy hippos and meerkats will still be on show to visitors in good weather, however, as they will be able to use the outdoor facilities.
New offspring among the bison
After a young animal was born to the bison in the Oberrabenstein wildlife park on 8 August, the second bison cow, five-year-old "Onia", gave birth to a female young animal on 7 September. The bison herd now comprises a total of five animals.
As is customary for bison born in the Oberrabenstein wildlife enclosure, the calf was given a name beginning with OR for Oberrabenstein. It is now called "Orelie", its half-sister "Orlanda".
