Tropical Christmas visit to Chemnitz Zoo

The invitation is also valid for the 4th Advent - and on Christmas Day there's a sweet surprise for the youngest visitors to the zoo and wildlife park

A relaxing and restorative walk through the zoo and wildlife park should not be missed during the festive season. After all, the Christmas roast enjoyed beforehand and the cosy hours at home need to be countered with some exercise. Zoo director Dr Anja Dube invites you to visit the extensive areas on Nevoigtstraße (zoo) and in Rabenstein (wildlife park). Here you can take long walks, including close-up animal experiences and also combine them with tropical feel-good temperatures in the tropical house and vivarium.

Chemnitz Zoo offers a number of special attractions around the festive season, for example to make the most of your free time and learn something about interesting animals at the same time.

On the two weekends before and after Christmas, i.e. on 21 and 22 December and 28 and 29 December, as well as on the three public holidays of 25 and 26 December and 1 January , there will be additional activities: It starts at 10:30 a.m. with a short guided tour and feeding in the vivarium, where colourful poison dart frogs and the giant salamander await visitors. At 11 am, the camels are looking forward to their portion of carrots. If you're feeling a little sluggish (among the visitors), the two-fingered sloths are perfect for the "sloth meeting" at 2 pm in the tropical house. Zoo manager Anja Dube: "It's rare to see these sloths in action. But when it's time for feeding, the sloth also becomes mobile and can be observed climbing and eating - an opportunity that otherwise only arises with a lot of luck." Immediately afterwards, the visitors' favourites are fed: the cheeky meerkat gang. The smallest of them is a particular favourite, who despite his small size doesn't let anything get him down and fights hard for his food. He is always accompanied by a big meerkat who looks after him and looks after him. 15:15 The porcupine kids show up for the show feeding (depending on the weather) and gnaw on their fruit and vegetables with relish. They often put up their porcupine quills and rattle them threateningly as they fight over the best pieces of food.

But all the other animals in the zoo and wildlife park are also worth a visit, as there is always something new and perhaps surprising to discover here. Speaking of surprises: on 24 December, Christmas Day, the youngest visitors receive a sweet surprise at the entrance to the zoo and wildlife park - to make the wait for Father Christmas easier and while stocks last...

Please note the special opening hours of the zoo and wildlife park on Tuesday, 24 December and Tuesday, 31 December 2013: both facilities close their gates at 2 pm, last admission to the zoo is 1 pm.
