Trial lighting of the Rabenstein viaduct
Invitation to the photo session: today, around 9 pm
Today, after sunset - at around 9 pm - the Rabenstein viaduct will be floodlit by inetz (eins) for a trial. The trial illumination is only planned for this one evening.
The plan is to illuminate the structure with four LED spotlights in the dark in future after the refurbishment in order to better emphasise the architectural and technical masterpiece.
For this purpose, a preferred variant has been determined in advance from various options using computer animation. This is now to be trialled in reality.
As the bridge is a listed monument and nocturnal animals could also be affected by the light, the monument protection authority and the nature conservation authority must assess the effects of the illumination. The trial will show whether and how the lighting can then be realised.
As the operator, inetz (eins) is responsible for the bridge lighting. The costs of operation are borne by the city of Chemnitz.
The repair of the viaduct in Rabenstein began in April. In addition to its importance for tourism, the structure is also highly valued as a technical monument and will be preserved in its original state. The construction work will continue until summer 2022.
The total cost of the restoration is 2.6 million euros, of which the Free State of Saxony is providing 1.5 million euros from the former GDR party assets.
