Tree transplantation "Neue Johannisvorstadt"
Photo opportunity: Monday, 14 September, 11 a.m., former TIETZ car park
On Monday, 14 September, two mature lime trees, a summer lime and a Crimean lime, around 25 years old, will be transplanted from the "Neue Johannisvorstadt" construction site to the Park of the Victims of Fascism, more precisely to the row of trees along the street of the same name. This row of trees already consists of winter and summer lime trees. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to the photo session at 11 a.m., at which Peter Börner, Head of the City of Chemnitz Parks Department, and probably a representative of the investor will be present. The meeting point is the former TIETZ car park.
Building plots 5 and 6 at the TIETZ have been sold to HANSA Real Estate Beteiligungs AG. An urban development contract stipulates, among other things, the preservation and creation of green spaces. It was agreed that not all of the trees on the square would be felled, but that two lime trees around 25 years old would be transplanted.
Before a large tree with a trunk diameter of over 30 cm can be transplanted, the following measures must be taken:
- Digging free the root ball with clean cuts to the roots,
- Compensatory pruning measures in the crown,
- Anchoring the tree to ensure stability,
- Regular watering and fertilising.
This stimulates the fine roots of the trees to grow, which prepares them well for the new location. Due to the slightly shaded new location and three years of growth care, success is foreseeable - as a rule, these large tree transplants are carried out during the dormancy period of the trees (from October).
All the necessary measures for transplanting large trees are carried out by the company Kranstöver & Wolf GmbH from Großpösna near Leipzig. The total costs amount to around 28,000 euros, which will be borne by the investor.
