Today, Friday, a Caucasian wingnut had to be felled at short notice in the park by the Red Tower for safety reasons. The tree stood in the immediate vicinity of the fountain, was around 55 years old and characterised the listed park. However, it was not the largest tree in the meadow of the Stadthallenpark.
The stability of the tree, which visually still appeared vital, was no longer guaranteed as fungi had caused severe wood decay in the trunk.
Due to the high level of traffic expected, for example due to events in the park by the Red Tower, action had to be taken immediately.
In autumn 2025, the Parks Department will replant a young tree of the same species.
