Tree felling work in the urban areas

Tree felling work is currently underway in the north, south-west and south-east areas of the city. During the ongoing tree inspections, damage to trees has been identified that is causing them to lose their breaking strength or stability. This means that the trees in question are at risk of breaking or falling over. There is an urgent need for action on the trees listed in the appendix.

Without exception, the work to be carried out is urgent and serves to maintain or restore road safety.

A total of 174 trees need to be felled, 39 of them in the north urban area, 54 in the south-east urban area and 81 in the south-west urban area. The locations of the trees can be viewed interactively on the city of Chemnitz's themed city map at www.chemnitz.de/themenstadtplan.

All tree maintenance measures in terms of the duty to maintain safety are legally permissible and do not constitute an offence under Section 39 BNatSchG.

The wood from the felled trees becomes the property of the company commissioned with the tree felling, in this case Dieter Richter GmbH.
