From Monday 16 February, maintenance work will be carried out on trees and shrubs in the extension area of the city park (meadow area on the Südring) near the tennis court.
In the embankment area, approx. 80 trees with a trunk diameter of up to approx. 30 centimetres and approx. 20 trees with a trunk diameter of up to approx. 50 centimetres will be felled. This may cause temporary traffic obstructions.
The felling is necessary for maintenance and to ensure traffic safety. The trees, which have become too dense, are not very stable and there is a risk that they will fall onto the Südring and the paths in the city park.
The felling work will continue until 27 February. Under nature conservation law, they must be completed by the end of February.
The wood will remain on the site as a habitat for insects and small mammals.
The costs amount to approx. 8,300 euros. The work will be carried out by the company Chemnitzer Forst- und Landschaftsservice.
