Tree felling along Stollberger Straße not until autumn
Necessary between Wenzel-Verner-Straße and Carl-Bobach-Straße for traffic safety reasons
The poplars on Stollberger Straße will not be felled until the autumn. This has now been decided by the Parks Department, as the songbirds have already started to prepare for breeding due to the rather mild winter.
The project was explained to local residents at an information event and received a largely positive response. A redesign of the area will be presented at a later date. This will be based on the professional replanting of suitably sited street trees along Stollberger Strasse.
Due to the mild weather in February, songbirds are already showing increased activity in preparation for breeding. For this reason, the Parks Department has decided not to carry out the work until after the end of this year's breeding season. The felling will therefore begin in October and will take around two weeks.
During the execution period, the car parks in the area of Wenzel-Verner-Straße and Carl-Bobach-Straße will be closed off in several sections. Alternative parking spaces will be provided where possible. Apart from the traffic restrictions in the residential area, traffic obstructions on Stollberger Straße cannot be ruled out.
Along Stollberger Straße, in the area of Wenzel-Verner-Straße and Carl-Bobach-Straße, there is a hillside planting of mainly Canadian poplars. The trees were planted very close together when the residential area was built, with the aim of creating a quick visual barrier to Stollberger Straße.
Due to the lack of space for the individual specimens to develop, the above-ground parts of the trees are ageing prematurely and the root balls are underdeveloped. This threat to the stability of the trees has been observed for some time during regular inspections of the stand and has now led to the decision to fell the area with around 400 trees in order not to jeopardise road safety.
