Tree care measures in the Yorck area start from 4 February - in spring Planting new trees and shrubs
Necessary cutting and felling work until approx. 22 February - Bersarinstraße in the area of house numbers 30 to 56 and parking areas temporarily closed - Information on restrictions on site will be provided in good time and organised on a daily basis
The tree maintenance measures will be carried out in sections, starting in the area of house number 56. The difficult felling work - this concerns the trees in the area of house numbers 30 to 36 - is planned from Monday, 11 February; this work also requires the use of appropriately large equipment on site.
Residents informed in good time - necessary restrictions on a daily basis: Residents of Bersarinstrasse are asked to understand that the felling work will necessitate a section-by-section full closure of parts of the road, including the car parks. The specialist company Klimek & Rudolph has been commissioned by the city to organise the traffic; they will organise the necessary measures on site on a daily basis, such as the timely signposting of the relevant diversions and the closure of the affected parking areas, thus helping to limit the disruption for residents as far as possible. In order to minimise the impact on residents, the work on the trees in Bersarinstrasse will also be completed at 4 p.m. and the full closure will then be interrupted until the following morning. The city council is therefore asking residents for their support and assistance: not least in their own interest, residents are asked to keep the affected parking spaces in front of the houses at numbers 30 to 56 free of parked vehicles in accordance with the signage from Monday, 4 February until the end of the work (probably on Friday, 22 February).
New plantings on Bersarinstraße in spring: The poplar is a shallow-rooted softwood species that tends to form deadwood increasingly quickly with age and is prone to breakage due to fungal infestation. During the regular tree inspections carried out by the city's Parks Department, deterioration in the vitality of the trees on Bersarinstraße has been noted and recorded for several years. Although the hybrid poplars in the area opposite the residential buildings at numbers 30 to 56 are only around 40 years old, due to their dense growth and poor planting quality most of them have already reached the age limit up to which they can be kept in public spaces safely and with economically justifiable pruning measures.
In 1999 and 2003, measures were already carried out in the same street area to ensure the long-term development of the greenery surrounding the allotment garden site and to be able to dispense with the poplar trees in future. A further stage of this measure will be completed with the cutting and felling measures planned for February 2013.
Eleven medium-crowned trees and 60 shrubs will then be replanted at the same location by May 2013 as part of a further measure. The specialist department has selected suitable tree species for this: five "Schloss Tiefurt" cherry trees, two field maples, two hornbeams and two purple alders. Shrubs such as bridal spirea, white dogwood, farmer's jasmine (also known as false jasmine) and purple dogwood will create an attractive year-round setting with their flowers and interesting colours.
