Tree care and tree felling at the allotment garden site "An der Bersarinstraße"

From today until 2 December, tree maintenance work such as limbing, clearance pruning and the removal of trunk and cane shoots will be carried out on the allotment garden site "An der Bersarinstraße".

The existing 15 poplars will also be felled. In 2016, a vehicle parked on the adjacent parking lane in Bersarinstraße was damaged by so-called "green branch shedding". The Parks Department therefore decided to have the trees felled as a precautionary measure to prevent further damage to vehicles in the interests of local residents.

The shedding of green branches itself is unpredictable and also occurs in completely healthy and intact trees. Experts cannot attribute this phenomenon of "green branch breakage" to a specific cause - it can occur in beech trees, chestnut trees, etc. However, it occurs more frequently in poplars and birches, i.e. in tree species that have poorer wood properties in terms of elasticity and strength. Replanting with other tree species is planned for 2017.

The costs for the measure amount to approx. 5,000 euros. Dieter Richter GmbH from Neukirchen/Erzgebirge was commissioned by the city/landscaping department to carry out these services
