Treasure chest city archive reopened after completion of construction work

Invitation for media representatives for Monday, 7 January, 11 a.m. for an on-site appointment - Mayor Rochold welcomes guests to the festive event "Schatztruhe Stadtarchiv" for the reopening of the building at Aue 16 at 4 p.m.

On Monday, 7 January 2013, the Chemnitz City Archive will celebrate the reopening of the building at Aue 16 with a festive event entitled "Schatztruhe Stadtarchiv" ("Treasure Chest City Archive") following its closure for around three quarters of a year due to the now completed construction work (PM 110 from 01.03.2012). The event, to which representatives of the media are cordially invited, will begin at 4.00 pm. Mayor Philipp Rochold will welcome the approximately 100 guests in the hall of the building. Representatives of the administration and the city council, the universities of Chemnitz, Leipzig and Dresden, the Chemnitz History Society and other associations and citizens associated with the archive have been invited.

Representatives of the media are invited to a press event on Monday morning at 11 a.m. in the historic city archive building near Falkeplatz: Gabriele Viertel, head of the city archive, will be available to talk to you about the construction and installation work and will be happy to show you round the building. A total of around 46,000 euros was invested by the city in the measures realised in the city archive last year. The city archive will be happy to provide you with photos of the construction work over the past few months in advance on request.

Opening hours: The Chemnitz City Archive will be open again for visitors and users from Tuesday 8 January as follows: Monday from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm, Tuesday and Thursday from 8.30 am to 6 pm, Friday from 8.30 am to 12 noon.

Information on the festive afternoon event on Monday, 7 January, 4 p.m.: At the event to mark the reopening of the building, the City Archive will provide information on the construction work in the archive as well as the results of the archive's work over the past year and projects for the near future. Among other things, documents that were handed over to the Chemnitz archive last year, the results of restoration and digitisation projects and research projects up to 2018 will be presented.

The documents handed over to the Chemnitz City Archive last year include the donation of the founding charter of the "Brautsuppengesellschaft" from 1685 from private hands and the diary of a Chemnitz soldier from the 1870/71 war. Historical city maps and photographs as well as flyers and the Neefe family estate were digitised and filmed.
