Zietenstraße will be reopened to traffic on Friday 13 December at around 11 am. The complex construction project was completed after more than two years of construction. The technical acceptance of the construction work takes place today.
Extensive work was carried out during the coordinated construction project by ESC, eins/inetz and the City of Chemnitz Traffic and Civil Engineering Department.
The ESC renewed the main combined sewer over a total length of 305 metres. All house connections for wastewater/rainwater were renewed and renovated over a total length of approx. 245 metres. Six new manholes were built in the process.
Eins/inetz continued the district heating development of the Sonnenberg throughout the entire construction area, including the installation of all house connections. The drinking water transport and drinking water supply pipes as well as the corresponding house connections were also renewed. The high-pressure gas pipeline and the power supply including the house connections were also renewed. The road section also received new city lighting.
The carriageway and the sides of the road were almost completely dug up for these complex pipe installations.
Subsequently, the City of Chemnitz's traffic and civil engineering department completely renewed the road in the section between Augustusburger Straße and Sonnenstraße over a length of approx. 290 metres. High-quality and durable materials were used to significantly enhance the appearance of the road: the carriageway was completely rebuilt as planned in accordance with load class (Bk) 10. The pavements were also completely rebuilt with concrete slab pavement and eco-paving in the area of the tree locations. The tree locations were restructured in the process. In addition, longitudinal parking spaces were completely rebuilt using granite paving. Furthermore, two barrier-free bus stops with a semi-rigid surface course in the carriageway and two secure barrier-free pedestrian crossings were built. New bicycle racks were also installed.
In addition, the carriageway at the Augustusburger Straße/Zietenstraße junction was partially renewed and the asphalt in the neighbouring Jakobstraße was repaired.
The ESC coordinated the entire project. The ESC's share of the costs totalled EUR 0.74 million, while the costs of the measures carried out by eins/inetz amounted to EUR 2.43 million.
The costs for the road construction portion totalled EUR 1.38 million (gross) and the planned budget was adhered to.
The coordinated construction project took longer than planned. Due to the condition of the pipe and media stock found during the work, the media owners decided to completely replace this stock in the construction area. This extended the construction period by around three months, i.e. from the original October 2024 to December 2024.
Work on Zietenstrasse had begun in mid-November 2022. In May 2022, Chemnitz City Council decided to renovate Zietenstraße between Augustusburger and Sonnenstraße as a coordinated construction project.
