Transfer of tasks for the implementation of stage 4 of the Chemnitz model to the ZVMS

The Chemnitz City Council decided today to transfer the construction of the transport infrastructure facilities for the Chemnitz model (stage 4) on the Chemnitz - Limbach-Oberfrohna route to the Central Saxony Transport Association (ZVMS).

For this stage of the Chemnitz model, the ZVMS is taking over the task of building the new tram line from the city. The ZVMS will thus take over the planning and realisation of this major project with the involvement of CVAG as the future owner and responsible operator of the tram infrastructure in the city area.

With this transfer of tasks, which has already proved its worth in stage 2 (Thalheim/Aue) of the Chemnitz model, the investment activities for the transport facilities will be bundled at ZVMS. It can thus independently make the necessary investments in the transport facilities for rail-bound (trains) and road-bound public transport (trams). Supplementary urban development measures in the public transport area remain the responsibility of the City of Chemnitz.
Following the completion of stage 2, the extension of the Chemnitz - Thalheim / Aue line, stage 4 of the Chemnitz model from Chemnitz to Limbach-Oberfrohna is to be realised. The project is to include the construction of the new tram centre ring Theaterstraße / Brückenstraße, the construction of the new tram line Hartmannstraße / Leipziger Straße / Röhrsdorf investigation area and the connection with the original railway line to Limbach-Oberfrohna.
