Traffic restrictions on Limbacher Straße from 10 April

Information from the city's traffic authority for road users:

One-way street regulation: Due to the necessary closure of Limbacher Straße in the area of house number 37, only a small remaining width of the carriageway remains, so that Limbacher Straße must be designated as a one-way street in the direction of the city from 10 April 2013.

The country direction will be diverted via Fritz-Matschke-Straße / Matthesstraße / Beyerstraße. Road users should note that due to the expected high volume of traffic, Fritz-Matschke-Straße and Matthesstraße can only be designated as one-way streets from 10 April.

Crossing traffic lights: In order to keep traffic flowing despite the necessary diversion, temporary crossing traffic lights will be installed at the Matthesstraße/ Beyerstraße and Beyerstraße/ Limbacher Straße/ Barbarossastraße junctions.

Stopping bans: It is also necessary to issue stopping bans in the area of the safety point and in various areas of the diversion route. This is to prevent traffic hazards. In the interests of road safety, road users are urgently requested to comply with these necessary stopping restrictions.

Pedestrian traffic and CVAG bus stop: Pedestrian traffic heading towards the city centre will be allowed to cross the pedestrian ford at the traffic lights at the Limbacher Straße/ Beyerstraße/ Barbarossastraße junction or via a pedestrian crossing aid (pedestrian crossing). via a pedestrian crossing aid (a temporary centre island in the form of guard rails) at the height of "Lidl" onto the opposite pavement.

The CVAG stop on the city side will be set up approx. 30 metres further towards the city.

Information on the building at Limbacher Straße 37: The building has been under observation by the City of Chemnitz/Building Permit Office since 2002, and after the most recent on-site inspection by the Building Permit Office, it was determined that the building at Limbacher Straße 37 is no longer stable and therefore a cordoning off of the public traffic area is unavoidable. The owner of the building had already been requested by the City of Chemnitz in 2012/2013 to remove the hazards, but has not yet complied with this obligation.

The danger emanating from the building at Limbacher Straße 37 has now increased to such an extent that the authorities must intervene immediately and order appropriate measures (cordoning off and associated traffic restrictions). The City of Chemnitz is also once again calling on the owner to take the necessary measures to secure his property so that the barrier now required can be dismantled as quickly as possible. The costs of the necessary barrier measures will be charged to the owner.

The City of Chemnitz has the following picture of the damage to the building: After a fire in the centre roof area and attic over twelve years ago, large parts of the roof boarding and the rafters underneath were burnt off and the rest of the roof structure damaged. As a result of the owner's failure to carry out repairs, moisture from rain and snow has since penetrated unhindered, leading to the wooden structures losing their load-bearing capacity in the medium term: some of the ceilings in the building have already collapsed. On the side facing the street, several wooden beam ceilings have broken through, while the bracing walls have also been damaged. A particular weak point on the side facing the street is the centre section of the building: There is a lack of bracing here over a span of around four metres, meaning that localised collapse is possible under the influence of wind and snow and could lead to larger masonry and roof components falling into the public traffic area. The city had to take this potential danger into account by cordoning off the area.
