Traffic restrictions on Leipziger Straße from Monday

From Monday, 7 July, work for the broadband expansion will take place in the landward direction of Leipziger Straße between Luis-Otto-Straße and Bornaer Straße. The work was deliberately scheduled for the current summer holidays due to the lower traffic volume and is expected to last until 25 July.

One of the two lanes on the landward carriageway will always be available during the construction work. As most of the construction work is taking place in the pavement area, the right-hand lane will be required for the emergency pedestrian route.

The expansion will take place in two construction phases: On 7 July, the Leipziger Straße section will begin directly in front of the Bornaer Straße junction. The aim is to complete the restriction in front of the immediate junction area as quickly as possible.

Following this, the second section of Leipziger Straße in the right-hand lane between Luis-Otto-Straße and Bornaer Straße outside the junction is expected to begin in the 29th calendar week.

Access to the blocks of flats and neighbouring businesses will always be guaranteed during the construction work.

The construction work is part of lot 9 of the subsidised broadband expansion project in the city of Chemnitz (see also PM 174).

As this is an "access route" for the connection of the technical site "PoP 47" (a distribution station), the completion of the route is an essential prerequisite for the possible early partial commissioning or regular full commissioning of the planned fibre optic network Chemnitz Northwest Part II.

Delayed completion as a result of the postponement to the next few years would mean that all buildings in PoP area 47 would not be able to book and use a fibre optic connection until the route along Leipziger Straße (from Bornaer Straße towards the city centre) is completed. This would affect parts of the districts of Schloßchemnitz, Borna, Furth and Altendorf.
