From today, 11 June to Monday, 16 June, extensive traffic restrictions will be necessary for the KOSMOS Festival taking place next weekend (13 to 15 June).
The organiser, Kulturhauptstadt Europas Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH, has planned numerous programme items, particularly in the areas of Erich-Schmidt-Straße, Promenadenstraße, Theunertstraße, Schloßstraße, Schloßteichstraße and Matthesstraße as well as on Theaterplatz.
Road closures
From today, 11 June, 8 a.m. until Monday, 16 June, approx. 6 p.m., the following road section will be fully closed:
- Theunertstraße between Promenadenstraße and Schloßstraße
From Friday, 13 June, 8 a.m. to Monday, 16 June, approx. 6 p.m., the following roads or road sections will be fully closed:
- Promenadenstraße between Theunertstraße and Arndtplatz
- Erich-Schmidt-Straße
- Matthesstraße between Leipziger Straße and Bergstraße
- Schloßteichstraße between Bergstraße and Hechlerstraße
- Bergstraße between Matthesstraße and Hartmannstraße
- Schloßstraße between Theunertstraße and Arndtstraße
On Friday, 13 June, from 5 p.m. to approx. 11 p.m., the following road section will be closed:
- Straße der Nationen between Carolastraße and Brückenstraße in the direction of Brückenstraße
From Saturday, 14 June, 8 a.m. to Sunday, 15 June, approx. 10 p.m., the following roads or road sections will be fully closed:
- Hechlerstraße between Salzstraße and Schloßteichstraße
- Schloßteichstraße between Hechlerstraße and Promenadenstaße
- Promenadenstraße between Schloßteichstraße and Arndtplatz
- Seumestraße between Nordstraße and Promenadenstraße
- Georgstraße between Nordstraße and Promenadenstraße
- Arndstraße between Schloßstraße and Promenadenstraße
- Arndtplatz
- Schloßstraße between Arndtstraße and Theunertstraße
From Friday, 13 June, 8 am to Monday, 16 June, approx. 6 pm, the following road section will be closed to through traffic:
- Salzstraße between Hechlerstraße and Schönherrstraße
The event site will be closed to all traffic at the above times; this applies to the following roads and road sections:
- Mathesstraße between Leipziger Straße and Bergstraße
- Bergstraße between Mathesstraße and Hartmannstraße
- Schloßteichstraße between Bergstraße and Promenadenstraße
- Promenadenstraße between Hartmannstraße and Schloßteichstraße
- Schloßstraße between Hartmannstraße and Arndtstraße
- Seumestraße between Nordstraße and Promenadenstraße
- Arndtplatz
- Arndtstraße between Schloßstraße and Promenadenstraße
- Georgstraße between Nordstraße and Promenadenstraße
- Straße der Nationen between Carolastraße and Brückenstraße in the direction of Brückenstraße
Stopping restrictions
In order to keep the event site clear and for safety reasons, it is necessary to set up stopping bans. They will be set up on Brückenstraße (Stumpf), Arndtstraße, Arndtplatz, Schloßstraße, Theunertstraße, Promenadenstraße, Erich-Schmidtstraße, Schloßteichstraße, Matthesstraße and in the Schloßberg and Hartmannstraße car parks (opposite the police station).
The affected residents have been informed by the organiser about the stopping bans and their validity.
The stopping restrictions apply in the following streets and sections:
- from today, 11 June, 6 a.m.: Theunertstraße
- from Thursday, 12 June, 6 a.m.: Promenadenstraße between Schloßteichstraße and Seumestraße
- from 6 a.m. on Friday, 13 June: Promenadenstraße, Erich-Schmidt-Straße, Schloßteichstraße, Matthesstraße, Bergstraße, Arndtstraße, Brückenstraße (Stumpf), Schloßberg car park, Hartmannstraße car park (opposite the police station)
- from Friday, 13 June, 5 p.m.: Promenadenstraße between Hartmannstraße and Theunertstraße, Schloßstraße, Salzstraße
- from Saturday, 14 June, 6 a.m.: Hechlerstraße between Winklerstraße and Salzstraße
The stopping restrictions must be observed and adhered to. The restrictions on stationary traffic will be monitored and enforced by the municipal enforcement service of the City of Chemnitz.
Bypass option
It is possible to bypass the traffic closures via Mühlenstraße - Theaterstraße - Hartmannstraße - Leipziger Straße.
Speed limit
A speed limit of 30 km/h will be imposed on Hartmannstraße, Leipziger Straße and Reichsstraße due to their proximity to the event site.
Compliance with the speed limit will be monitored by the public order office in the Hartmannstraße area.
Parking
Due to the limited number of parking spaces and multi-storey car parks in the city centre and the expected disruption to private traffic, it is strongly recommended that you use public transport.
The city centre car parks not affected by the closure, the P+R car parks and the Lise-Meitner-Straße car park are available for parking.

Furthermore, the organiser will inform those arriving on the day of arrival on social media about current parking options and possible overcrowding of parking spaces.
For residents with valid resident parking permits in the area of the closures, Hartmannplatz is available as an alternative area. Furthermore, residents with a valid resident parking permit for the respective issued management district can also park in all other districts of the management zones during this period.
