Traffic opening tomorrow for new roundabout at the Wolgograder Allee / Arno-Schreiter-Straße junction

The roundabout at the Wolgograder Allee / Arno-Schreiter-Straße junction will be completed tomorrow (23 November) with the technical acceptance and then opened to traffic. As part of the construction work, the Wolgograder Allee/Arno-Schreiter-Straße junction was converted into a small roundabout with an outer diameter of 32 metres. Furthermore, Wolgograder Allee was redesigned for a total of approx. 150 metres before and after the roundabout and the other access routes were adapted.

At the landward connection to the roundabout, barrier-free bus stops were installed on both sides as kerbside stops. Pedestrian islands with pedestrian crossings were built in all side arms of the roundabout.

The measure that has now been realised will significantly increase road safety at this junction and replace the previous traffic light system.

The construction project began on 26 August 2013 and was commissioned to Gunter Hüttner & Co. GmbH from Chemnitz.

The construction costs totalled around 210,000 euros. The project was subsidised by the Free State of Saxony with 143,000 euros for the improvement of municipal infrastructure.

The redesign of the junction is part of the medium-term plans to remodel Wolgograder Allee. It is also planned to upgrade the Wolgograder Allee/Chemnitzer Straße junction with a roundabout in 2014.
