Traffic lights go into operation on Monday
New regulations for left turns into Winklerstraße
The Leipziger Straße/Winklerstraße traffic lights, which are currently being converted, are due to go into operation on Monday, 22 December 2014. This will result in the following changes to traffic regulations:
On Leipziger Straße in the direction of the city centre, the left turn into Winklerstraße will be controlled by a separate signal in future. A separate left-turn lane will be available for this purpose.
It will no longer be possible to turn left from Leipziger Straße into Winklerstraße in the direction of Luisenplatz. The predominantly local traffic can turn left at Konradstraße and continue along Am Luisenplatz to reach Winklerstraße.
These decisions to increase road safety were based on the number of accidents in recent years. The Chemnitz police department had reported the junction to the City of Chemnitz accident commission as an accident blackspot and the measures were decided by the commission after appropriate investigations.
Over the next three months, the changed traffic routing will be indicated by special traffic signs.
Note for the media: The reorganisation of the facility is part of a whole series of measures on Leipziger Straße. Please refer to press release no. 664 from 17 November 2014.
