Tradition in Chemnitz fire brigade sport: 15th Eibepokal and Eubicup
On Saturday, 1 June, the 15th Eibepokal fire-fighting cup for volunteer fire brigades and the 15th Eubicup for youth fire brigades will take place at the Euba sports ground, Am Lehngut. As in previous years, the host and organiser of these traditional sporting events is the Euba volunteer fire brigade. The competitions will be opened on site at 9 am. Catering for the athletes and visitors will be provided by the comrades of the Euba fire brigade.
Media representatives are cordially invited to attend the sporting event.
Inthe morning, the youth fire brigades will be competing for the Eubicup in Euba: the eight youth fire brigade teams registered so far will be competing for the trophy in the "group relay" discipline. Six boys, six girls or mixed teams aged between 10 and 18 will compete. The competitions are held according to standardised competition rules and speed and skill are essential: in this discipline, the young firefighters have to lay hoses, tie fire brigade knots and spray cans with a bucket sprayer. Whoever manages this properly and in the shortest time under the strict gaze of the judges receives the trophy.
The adult teams then compete in two heats for the Eibepokal in the "wet firefighting attack" discipline: The main criteria here are strength, speed and skill. In this discipline, each team consists of seven participants. Their task is to carry out a simulated fire-fighting attack in as short a time as possible under the same competition rules. This involves pumping water from a basin using a motor pump, setting up a hose line over a length of 80 metres and filling two target containers with ten litres of water each from a distance of five metres using two C-pipes. Whoever fills both target containers in the shortest time and fulfils all the competition conditions is the winner. In good weather conditions, times of around 40 seconds are expected.
To date, six teams from the volunteer fire brigades of the city of Chemnitz and the surrounding communities have registered for this discipline. All in all, visitors can look forward to exciting competitions worth watching in both disciplines. The timetable for the competitions: until 8.30 a.m. Arrival of participants - 9 a.m. Opening - 9.15 a.m.: Start of "Group relay" competitions - 10.30 a.m. "Group relay" award ceremony; "Wet fire-fighting attack" draw - 11:00 a.m.: start of the "wet fire-fighting attack" competitions - around 1 p.m.: award ceremony "wet fire-fighting attack" - around 2 p.m.: end of the event.
