Town hall freed from scaffolding
Just in time for the Chemnitz City Festival from 25 to 27 August, the scaffolding will be removed from Chemnitz City Hall. The façade renovation is nearing completion. The schedule was adhered to despite weather-related disruptions. The town hall will then shine in new splendour once again. In recent years, important measures have been completed with the draining, façade and roof renovation, which were urgently needed for the further preservation of the historic building fabric. The roof renovation, including the renewal of the lightning protection in the New Town Hall, was completed at the end of June.
Construction was originally scheduled to end in May 2017. However, further damage was discovered during the work. This was immediately repaired. For example, the tower was given new panelling. In addition, the weather vane no longer rotated and was repaired.
In September 2017, work will be carried out on the Lucretia portal in coordination with the registry office.
