Torsten Loibl signs the Golden Book of the City of Chemnitz
The successful 3x3 basketball coach Torsten Loibl was immortalised in the City of Chemnitz's Golden Book today in the presence of Lord Mayor Sven Schulze. The 49-year-old was surprised with the entry during the half-time break of the NINERS Chemnitz basketball game against Ratiopharm Ulm.
Torsten Loibl was honoured for his services and tireless commitment to the Chemnitz sports landscape and beyond the city limits.
"Torsten Loibl's coaching career is incredible. From the recreational club, today's ESV Lok Chemnitz, to an Olympic participant in Tokyo. With the 3x3 basketball team reaching the Olympic quarter-finals this year, Torsten Loibl has achieved the greatest success in Japanese basketball history. No other coach has been more successful in Japan than the native of Karl-Marx-Stadt. That makes us proud as a city. Especially because he contributed to the club's sporting success as head coach of the ProA league team BV Chemnitz 99 at the time. As a 16-year-old, Torsten Loibl founded a youth team at ESV Lok Chemnitz and marched up to the men's regional league with it. After the merger with BG Chemnitz, BV Chemnitz 99 was formed and Torsten Loibl also coached the men's team several times as head coach. Since 2000, he has worked intermittently for clubs in Japan and the association and has enjoyed great success. With Toyota Alvark, he was cup winner and champion in 2007.
