Invitation to the photo session: on 17 September, 1 pm, Jakobstraße 20

The topping-out ceremony for the future primary school with sports hall on the southern Sonnenberg, Jakobstraße 20, will be celebrated on Friday, 17 September at 1 pm. Both buildings will be decorated with the topping-out crown in the presence of Michael Stötzer, Mayor of Chemnitz, representatives of the City of Chemnitz, the neighbourhood management, the Sächsische Aufbaubank and various planning offices as well as representatives of the construction companies and businesses involved so far.

Representatives of the media are cordially invited.

A new primary school for 224 children with a sports hall and outdoor facilities is being built. This was decided by the city council in May 2020 (B-095/2020). The new primary school is located in school district IV. The need to expand primary school capacity by two classes was determined for this school district in autumn 2018.
Land first had to be acquired for the construction work.

On 1 October 2020, a 60 cm thick base slab was poured from a total of 920 cubic metres of concrete, encasing 95 tonnes of reinforcing steel. The foundation stone was laid on 8 October 2020.

Following completion of the shell of the school in April 2021, the interior fit-out and the shell of the sports hall have been underway since then. With the concreting of the roof on 15 September, the shell is largely complete and the topping-out ceremony can take place.

The total budget for the new building project is 18.5 million euros. It is being funded with around 10.5 million euros from the "School Infrastructure Ordinance" funding programme.
