Topping-out ceremony at the Am Hartmannplatz secondary school
Invitation to the photo session: on Thursday, 11 November, 10 a.m. at the construction site on Hartmannstraße (Festplatz)/corner of Fabrikstraße
The topping-out ceremony for the future secondary school Am Hartmannplatz in the city centre will be held on Thursday, 11 November at 10 am. In compliance with the current corona regulations, the topping-out wreath will be lifted onto the finished shell in the presence of the Mayor of Chemnitz, Michael Stötzer, representatives of the City of Chemnitz as well as architects, planners and builders. A guided tour of the building is also planned.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited. Access to the construction site is via Fabrikstraße (to the right of the old Hartmann-Halle). Please note that there is limited parking available in the surrounding area. Medical face masks are required during the event. There will be an opportunity for self-testing on site.
A new four-form secondary school with break and sports areas for a total of 672 pupils in 24 classes is being built on Hartmannplatz. Following an architectural competition, the city council decided on 30 October 2019 to build the new secondary school on a total site area of 21,500 square metres. This central school location will expand the capacity of secondary schools in the city centre in line with school network planning.
The construction site for the future secondary school had to be put on hold in spring 2020 because it was not possible to carry out a search for explosive ordnance - an evacuation following the discovery of a bomb would not have been possible due to the pandemic. This has delayed the construction process. Pupils will therefore not be able to take possession of the new rooms until the start of the 2023/2024 school year.
The total budget for the new building project is 32.6 million euros. Funding is being provided by the "Bridges to the Future" programme in the amount of approx. 20.7 million euros. This measure is co-financed by tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the members of the Saxon state parliament.
