Topping-out ceremony at Johannes Kepler Grammar School
Invitation for media representatives: on 6 December, 2.30 pm, Humboldtplatz 1
On Wednesday, 6 December at 2.30 pm, the topping-out ceremony for the extension will be celebrated at Johannes Kepler Gymnasium with an internal school event. In addition to the construction companies, representatives of the Chemnitz education authority and the city's green spaces department will be present.
Representatives of the media are also invited.
The extension to the existing building was approved by the city council in July 2022 to ensure that the Johannes Kepler Grammar School can accommodate four pupils and to create good learning conditions. As the dining hall and catering kitchen, for example, will move into the newly created part of the school, some rooms in the old building will also be used differently in future.
The building work is on schedule. The structural work was even completed a few weeks earlier than originally planned. The windows and doors are currently being installed. The extension is scheduled to go into operation at the start of the 2024/25 school year, after which - in October 2024 - the conversion work on the existing rooms in the existing building will begin. The aim is to complete the work in the existing building by the end of April 2025.
The costs total around 6.45 million euros. The Free State of Saxony is subsidising the project with around 3.82 million euros.
