Creative musical talent from Chemnitz honoured at the national "Jugend komponiert" competition
18-year-old Jonas Otte from Chemnitz is one of the winners of the national "Jugend komponiert" competition, which took place at Weikersheim Castle in Baden-Württemberg at the beginning of April. The competition, organised by Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland, is the highest award for young composers in Germany. This year, a total of 15 national prizes and 15 sponsorship prizes were awarded in several age groups and categories.
Instead of prize money, the award consists of a high-quality scholarship for participation in a composition workshop at Weikersheim Castle: from 2 to 8 April 2018, Jonas and 14 other young composers from all over Germany were guests in Weikersheim, where the young people had an intensive exchange with composers and musicians about their works and received valuable inspiration for their musical creativity. Their award-winning compositions were recorded on CD by winners of the German Music Competition and performed in a final concert.
Twice a year, this workshop is the forum for top young talents in the field of composition. Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland provides individualised support for young talents, shaping their future creative path.
The national competition "Jugend komponiert" took place for the 33rd time in 2018 and has written many success stories in its time of existence: For many now established composers, the competition has had the significance of an initial spark. Enno Poppe, Benjamin Schweitzer and Charlotte Seither are just a few examples.
The national competition "Jugend komponiert" is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Partners are the German Music Council, Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and HR2.
