Tomorrow is the start of the outdoor pool season in Bernsdorf and Wittgensdorf
Opening of the Gablenz outdoor pool a week later than planned on 1 June
After the start of the season at the Einsiedel outdoor pool (11 May), the outdoor pool season in Bernsdorf and Wittgensdorf will begin tomorrow (18 May) and next Saturday (25 May) in Erfenschlag. However, the Gablenz outdoor pool has now been delayed by a week and will not be able to open its gates to bathers on Saturday 25 May as planned, but will instead open for the season a week later on Saturday 1 June.
Regular visitors to the Gablenz outdoor pool are asked for their understanding for the necessary decision by the construction experts and are also welcome visitors to the outdoor pools that have already opened in the meantime. The opening date for the Gablenz outdoor pool has now had to be changed, as frost damage to the paddling pool was known, but this year - after the snow had melted - proved to be so severe that it was not possible to reopen the pool as originally planned. that a superficial repair as originally planned is not justifiable, both in terms of the hazard-free use of the pool and from an economic point of view, and that renovation is necessary instead. After a thorough assessment of the extent of the damage, the construction experts decided that the pool needed to be completely renovated. The work has now been put out to tender and awarded by the specialist department. The City of Chemnitz is investing around 60,000 euros to realise the work on the paddling pool.
In the coming weeks, the sloping concrete, the splash water channel and the surface of the children's paddling pool will be completely renewed. As this work involves the use of heavy construction equipment and therefore also noise pollution on site, the Gablenz outdoor pool and its other main areas, which have already been prepared for the start of the season, cannot be put into operation on the originally planned date of 25 May and the season will therefore start a week later on 1 June. By then, the demolition and concrete work will have been completed and the necessary construction site for the children's paddling pool will be marked out, including with privacy screens, as the resurfacing can only be carried out after a three-week waiting period to allow the newly poured concrete to set.
If all the necessary work on the children's paddling pool at the Gablenz outdoor pool can be completed as planned, the sports department expects the paddling pool to be available to the youngest bathers in the first half of July at the latest.
