Time to immerse yourself in magical worlds of books

Event in the holiday reading campaign "Buchsommer Sachsen" starts on 6 July

This year's popular holiday reading event "Buchsommer Sachsen" (Book Summer Saxony) will once again take place at Chemnitz City Library under the motto "Beim Lesen daucht ich ab" (I dive while reading). It starts on 6 July. All children and young people aged 11 to 16 can take part. Participation is free, uncomplicated and not tied to a regular library card.

The city library has purchased 500 brand-new thrillers, mystery and fantasy novels and cutting-edge stories about love and life. Pupils who can prove that they have read three books during the summer holidays receive a certificate and are invited to the closing party.

New: This year, it is not important to retell the book content. Instead, the children and young people can get creative themselves and create contributions that show that they have read the book. There are no limits to the imagination of the participants: Audio and video contributions on the book content or drawings of scenes are just as possible as a review. Creative contributions can be submitted via email, WhatsApp, Signal or Telegram messenger apps and Instagram using the hashtag #buchsommer_c.

The book summer takes place in the following libraries

  • TIETZ Central Library
  • District library in the Yorck area, Scharnhorststraße 11
  • Vita-Center district library, Wladimir-Sagorski-Straße 20
  • Einsiedel district library, Einsiedler Hauptstraße 79b
  • The Saxon Book Summer is a reading promotion initiative for young people organised by public libraries in Saxony and the Saxon State Association of the German Library Association in cooperation with the Saxon Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism with the support of the Chemnitz City Library Supporters Association. The Book Summer is co-financed by tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
