TIETZ Evening "European Identity"

Adult education centre event on Chemnitz's application to become Capital of Culture 2025

On Wednesday, 29 November 2017, from 5 p.m., all interested Chemnitz residents are cordially invited to an exciting evening on European identity on the ground floor of the TIETZ. The "TIETZ Evening" is part of Chemnitz's bid to become Capital of Culture 2025 and is the second event in the series of "Rosenhof Evenings" organised by Chemnitz Adult Education Centre. Due to the weather, this time it will not take place as an open-air event in the Rosenhof, but under cover in the TIETZ.

What actually is Europe? How is it visible and effective in Chemnitz? How do we perceive Europe here in Chemnitz, how European are we? And how do we identify ourselves within Europe? Where does our future lie? These and other questions will be explored in an exciting journey through Europe and Chemnitz. In a relaxed atmosphere with musical contributions from pianist Stephan Nobis and a small culinary offering, everyone is invited to join in the discussion, participate or simply enjoy an evening full of European city culture at the TIETZ.

Experts will share interesting facts about the city, culture and Europe. Guests will include cultural scientist Prof Dr Ulrike Brummert and Prof Dr Matthias Niedobitek from the Institute for European Studies at Chemnitz University of Technology. Creative Chemnitz residents will talk about their European lives and their view of Europe.

Dr Urs Luczak, Head of the Art and Culture Department at the Adult Education Centre, will lead through the evening and encourage a joint exchange with illustrated contributions on Europe and a European-influenced Chemnitz city culture.

The entire event is free of charge and open to all interested parties without registration. Chemnitz is applying for the title of Capital of Culture 2025 and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre is participating in the application process with its own programmes.

Take part and form your own opinion! We invite you to find out more about the topics of Europe, the Capital of Culture, the city and culture in various event formats and to enter into dialogue. You can also get involved, join in the discussions and develop ideas at workshops, forums and other local events. We look forward to seeing you!
