Tierpark Chemnitz: New resident on the ungulate mountain
Special offers and opening hours during the Christmas holidays
A new resident has been living at Chemnitz Zoo since the beginning of December. The almost one-and-a-half-year-old Bactrian camel mare Djascha came to Chemnitz from Cottbus Zoo. She survived the journey of just over 200 kilometres very well.
After a short familiarisation phase with her new keepers, Djascha was allowed to join her fellow animals in the outdoor enclosure. However, stallion Dschingis and mare Merle initially scrutinised the new arrival from a safe distance. In the meantime, Djascha has at least made friends with Dschingis, while Merle is still a bit of a stranger. But that is completely normal. The Bactrian camels are given both the time and the space to get to know each other or to get out of each other's way.
Offers and opening hours on public holidays
To shorten the wait for the presents and to pay a visit to the animal park and wildlife park inhabitants, all children (up to the age of 16 and only when accompanied by an adult) have free admission to Chemnitz Zoo and the Oberrabenstein Wildlife Park on 24 December. There will also be a small treat (while stocks last).
On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, the zoo and wildlife park are only open from 9 am to 2 pm. Last admission is at 1 pm. The Christmas holidays and New Year's Day are open as usual from 9 am to 4 pm, with last admission at 3 pm.
In keeping with the start of winter, Chemnitz Zoo is offering a public guided tour on the theme of "Animals in Winter" on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The tours start at 11 a.m. on both days and last approximately one hour. Participation is free of charge. Only the entrance fee has to be paid. Participation is suitable for children aged 6 and over. As the number of participants is limited, pre-registration is required at tierpark(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.
The zoo team would also like to take a look back with two guided tours just before the turn of the year: What happened this year, what was special to report? Which animals had offspring, which new species came to the zoo? Zoo educator Jan Klösters will answer these and other questions. He will also take a look ahead to next year, as the zoo will be celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2024. He will wrap all this up in a public guided tour on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. These start at 1 pm on both days and last around an hour. Participation is free of charge. Only the entrance fee has to be paid. The guided tours are thematically aimed more at adults; participation under the age of 14 is not recommended.
