thyssenkrupp System Engineering and VGP invest in electromobility at the Chemnitz industrial site
thyssenkrupp System Engineering GmbH is building a new plant for electromobility in Chemnitz together with industrial property developer VGP. A new, innovative production facility is being built on a total of four hectares in the Leipziger Straße industrial park, where thyssenkrupp employees will manufacture highly complex special machines and systems for the production of vehicle traction batteries. The investment volume of the plant is around 20 million euros
"Our competence centre for battery production systems in Hohenstein-Ernstthal is already playing a decisive role in the electromobility business field," says Ingo Steinkrüger, CEO of thyssenkrupp System Engineering. "Over the next few years, we expect an increase in incoming orders and an increase in the number of employees in this area. With our new plant in Chemnitz, we are taking this development into account."
The Mayor of Chemnitz, Barbara Ludwig, is delighted: "The investment by thyssenkrupp System Engineering is a strong signal for Chemnitz and is one of the most important in recent years. We are delighted that Chemnitz's mechanical engineering expertise will have an even greater impact on electromobility in the future!"

According to current plans, the site will be developed in the coming months so that thyssenkrupp System Engineering can start production in the course of the year. The other buildings and infrastructure will then be expanded and completed.
