Three Sundays open for business in 2020
At its meeting yesterday, Chemnitz City Council decided on the dates for three Sundays open for business in Chemnitz this year.
The following Chemnitz retail outlets may be open between 12 noon and 6 p.m. on
- Sunday, 8 November, the Chemnitz Center, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the antique and flea market in the Röhrsdorf district.
- Sunday, 29 November, city centre, Chemnitz Center, Sachsen-Allee and Vita-Center, on the occasion of the Erzgebirge Advent season in the city districts.
- Sunday, 13 December, city centre, Chemnitz Center, Sachsen-Allee, Vita-Center and Neefepark on the occasion of the Erzgebirge Advent season in the city districts.
The regulation is based on the Saxon Shop Opening Act, which authorises the opening of sales outlets on special occasions. Accordingly, special events in the vicinity of the venues can justify Sunday opening.
The Chemnitz Christmas market is a traditional and unusual event in the city that has a special attraction for visitors and experience has shown that it attracts a considerable number of visitors. Christmas markets attract numerous visitors both in the city centre and in the shopping centres Chemnitz Center, Sachen-Allee, Vita-Center and Neefepark. Opening shops on Sundays gives retailers the opportunity to be involved in the events and capitalise on the crowds of visitors. In addition to direct retail sales, many other businesses (catering, local and long-distance transport, etc.) and facilities in the city also benefit from Sunday openings.
