Three open Sundays decided for 2015

Chemnitz City Council has decided on the dates for three open Sundays in Chemnitz in the coming year. The administration had submitted an amendment to the draft resolution for the fourth date on 1 November 2015, which has not yet been decided.

The following three days have been determined on which sales outlets in Chemnitz may be open between 12 noon and 6 pm:

Sunday, 27 September 2015 - on the occasion of the 6th Days of Industrial Culture event.

Sunday, 6 December 2015 - on the occasion of the Chemnitz Christmas markets.

Sunday, 20 December 2015 - on the occasion of the Chemnitz Christmas markets.

The regulation is based on the Saxon Shop Opening Act of 1 December 2010, which allows retail outlets to be open on up to four Sundays per year from 12 noon to 6 pm on special occasions.

The dates decided by the city council were agreed in advance between the city administration and representatives of the Chemnitz Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the centre managers and representatives of retailers and the city council groups. The representative of the Protestant-Lutheran superintendency had expressed his agreement in advance to a maximum of four Sunday openings per year, with the exception of Holy Week.

There is still a need for coordination with the interest groups involved in the preparation of the draft resolution for 1 November 2015, which is also scheduled to be open for business.
