Three-country choir festival CHORUS premieres in Chemnitz
Event under the patronage of the Mayor of Chemnitz - Choirs from Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany to be guests at the Stadthalle from 17 to 20 October
Under the patronage of the Mayor of Chemnitz, Barbara Ludwig, the premiere of the newly founded three-country choir festival CHORUS will take place in the Stadthalle from 17 to 20 October 2013. Over 360 participants, choirs from Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany, are expected to take part. The event will be hosted by the women's choir Cappella Cantorum zu Chemnitz, which has secured the services of singer Katja Ebstein as artistic patron.
Mayor Barbara Ludwig will receive representatives of the choirs participating in the CHORUS Festival in Chemnitz on Friday, 18 October at 9 a.m. in the Wandelhalle of the town hall. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend the photo opportunity.
The idea for this three-country festival was born two years ago in September at a meeting between the conductors Werner Haas and Karel Virgler in Prague: both musicians are convinced that intensive joint music-making can also contribute to a better understanding of history and at the same time be open to the lives of our neighbours. CHOROS 2014 will continue in Prague from 5 to 8 June and in 2016 in Wroclaw, Poland, which will also be the European Capital of Culture.
The musical prelude to the first edition of the CHORUS festival in Chemnitz will be a concert by children's choirs on Friday, 18 October. The highlight of the festival is the big concert of all participating choirs on Saturday, 19 October; the focus is on the performance of Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana". The "Misa Criolla" by Argentinian composer Ariel Ramirez will delight the audience, as will the works by contemporary Polish and Czech composers on the concert programme, performed by renowned Polish soloists such as the internationally acclaimed soprano Katarzyna Dondalska and the award-winning tenor Piotr Kusiewicz.
The festival programme includes a musical matinee on Sunday, 20 October at 11 a.m.: friends of choral singing can look forward to the Krakow Philharmonic Boys' Choir conducted by Prof. Lidia Matynian, the children's chamber choir "Dziecięcy Chór Kameralny", the renowned Prague children's choir "Rolnicka" under the direction of choir director Karel Virgler and, last but not least, the "Chemnitzer Chorallen" under their conductor Werner Haas. According to the organisers, the highlights of the festival also include the adult choirs "Piastuny" from Wroclaw, "MaTa" from Prague, "Cappella Cantorum" and "Chemnitzer Singflut" from Chemnitz.
