Three children and youth conferences: this time the focus is on the right to education

A good tradition has been continued in Chemnitz in 2014 with the annual children's and youth conferences organised in November since 2007: A separate conference has been organised for pupils in years 3 and 4, 5 to 7 and 8 to 12. The meeting point for the three children and youth conferences is on 11, 18 and 25 November, from 3 p.m. to around 6 p.m. in the City Council Chamber of Chemnitz Town Hall. A total of around 150 children and young people from Chemnitz primary and secondary schools and grammar schools are expected to attend.
Once again this year, the three conferences will be organised and accompanied by students from Chemnitz University of Technology and members of the City Pupils' Council.
This year's main topic is "The right to education". The students want to discuss the following topics, for example: For example, the conference for third and fourth graders will focus on ways to help shape the content of project days and project weeks, school stress and what can be done about it, having fun while learning in class and outside of school, as well as who a student can talk to about problems at school. Pupils in years 5 to 12 will discuss issues such as co-determination at school, extracurricular education and co-determination as well as education policy in Saxony.
Background:Since 1989, 20 November has been marked in the calendar as International Children's Rights Day or World Children's Day. This day will also be used with the 8th Children and Youth Conference in Chemnitz in 2014 to educate children about their rights and to awaken their interest in politics.
The Children's Conference project was initiated in 2007 by the city's Children's Commissioner, Karin Genkel, who has successfully expanded the programme since 2012 as the Children's and Youth Conference and offers the annual platform for discussion, exchange and encounters between children and young people in grades three to twelve in a more age-appropriate and target group-oriented manner.
