Third Chemnitz fairytale book available from tomorrow
Stories tell of princesses, magical creatures, witches and pond maidens
Werner Kempe is the winner of this year's writing competition "Your Chemnitz. Your fairy tale" organised by the city of Chemnitz. "The fairy tale of the beautiful Princess Bellabel" takes us from a distant planet to the centre of the Küchwald forest. There, the princess searches for her prince, but finds something completely different. With his entry, Werner Kempe wins the publication and illustration of his story in the third Chemnitz fairytale book, which will be available from tomorrow, as well as 500 euros in prize money.
Carolin Kaufhold won second place and 300 euros with her story "Das Wesen von Chemnitz". The fairy tale is about a magical creature that is only visible to those who look properly. At the Chemnitz market, however, the creature finds itself in danger.
"Das Teppichhexlein" is the story by Christine Beyer. She came third and received 200 euros. "Das Teppichhexlein" weaves tapestries of stories that bring the long past to life. Together with little Ina, it travels back to the Middle Ages in Chemnitz.
The title story "Wim and the Pond Maiden" is a bonus tale this year, written by Michelle Ludwig. In this story, Wim and the pond maiden dive through Chemnitz's rivers, fountains and streams to find a magical chalice. They don't have much time, because the magic only lasts one night.
The third Chemnitz fairytale book was illustrated by the Chemnitz artist Marian Kretschmer with large-format pictures and has been published by the regional publishing house edition claus from Limbach-Oberfrohna. It comprises 68 pages and can be purchased in bookshops from tomorrow for 16 euros.
"Your Chemnitz. Your fairy tale" is the name of a writing competition that the city of Chemnitz organised for the first time in May 2021 and which was continued in 2022 and 2023. This idea has inspired many people. Numerous texts were submitted and many creative, funny, thought-provoking and enchanting stories were created. An expert jury selected the most impressive ones.
