Things to know about flood protection along streams

On Thursday 10 November at 6 p.m., interested parties are invited to a lecture followed by a discussion on the topic of flood protection for streams and the preservation of streams as ecological habitats. The information evening will take place in course room 4.07 at the adult education centre in the TIETZ.

Numerous bodies of water flow through the city of Chemnitz. Floods after heavy rainfall can also cause major damage to streams. Usually inconspicuous streams quickly become a danger during storms. At the same time, the bodies of water in the neighbourhood are an important ecological habitat that enjoy special protection.
The lecture will focus on the current situation of selected streams in Chemnitz and the development of recent years. What do we need to know about the functionality of watercourses? How can the dangers of heavy rainfall and high water levels be minimised? What can residents living near streams do to actively protect themselves from flooding? What can help to preserve streams and watercourses as natural habitats?
The two speakers work in the Civil Engineering Department of the City of Chemnitz, dealing with issues such as hydraulic engineering. After the lecture, they will invite their audience to a discussion.
