Theatre performance at the TIETZ: "My tender poet"
A comedic female solo - Margrit Straßburger on the road with Chekhov
Next Thursday, 22 February 2018, 7 pm, a special solo performance by and with Margrit Straßburger from Berlin will take place in the TIETZ event hall (3rd floor). Admission from 6.30 pm. (Tickets only at the box office.) Admission: 15 euros, reduced 10 euros (for members of the Goethe Society and the Pushkin Club Chemnitz)
In this extraordinary love story, Strassburger plays the unique woman of a "marriage in a balancing act". Anton Chekhov and Olga Knipper - she: a celebrated actress at the Moscow Art Theatre, he: 2000 kilometres away in the Crimea.
The audience is whisked away to a time that is very close to us, even though over 100 years have now passed. The two are separated by thousands of kilometres. The doctors had advised Chekhov to stay in the Crimea because of his tuberculosis. And yet, or perhaps precisely because of this, it is one of the most extraordinary love stories. Olga Knipper, the daughter of German immigrants, was born in 1868 and met Anton Chekhov at a theatre rehearsal for "The Seagull" in Moscow.
The play gives an insight into the psyche, work and oeuvre of one of Russia's most important writers and into the passionate love of the actress Olga Knipper, who is eight years younger. "Without you, I hang myself", says Anton Chekhov about his "little German", as he called her. Chekhov's plays "Three Sisters" and "The Cherry Orchard" were written, fuelled by his love affair with Olga Knipper.
The event is a co-operation between the Goethe Society, the Pushkin Club and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
