On Thursday, 27 March, from 7 to 9 pm, interested parties are invited to a special reading evening with the writers Patricia Holland Moritz, Michael Reiche and Joerg Waehner. The focus will be on a look back at the time when the authors lived in Karl-Marx-Stadt, their texts from those days and the challenges under which they were written.

In the year of the European Capital of Culture 2025, it is worth taking a look into the future, but also back - to a time in the GDR when culture and literature were not officially subsidised, but mistrusted, observed and persecuted.
On this evening, the authors Patricia Holland Moritz, Michael Reiche and Joerg Waehner will present texts that were written in secret, hammered out on typewriters in children's rooms or recited semi-legally in writing circles of labourers. They point to the important role of the written word throughout the ages. Little of what was written back then made it into publishing houses or was published in large print runs; much has merely remained in people's hearts.
At the same time, it seems important to look back - to the roots, to the literary green shoots that defied the radical scissors of the regime at the time, continued to drive and now continue to drive in order to set literary landmarks for the city and its citizens. The unwritten Chemnitz will be discussed in a reading and discussion.
The event is a co-operation between the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz and the Volkshochschule Chemnitz.
