The ultimate in fossilised trees

The Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz invites you to the lecture "The ultimate in fossilised trees - insights into a Permian habitat in Thuringia (Manebach Permian ecosystem)" on Wednesday, 20 June at 6.30 pm in the TIETZ event hall.
Multiple Science Slam winner Steffen Trümper will show how palaeontologists put together meticulously studied fossil evidence like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle in order to make statements about the past and future of our planet. "Habitats are machines of life in which thousands and thousands of organisms interact with each other like interlocking cogwheels," says Steffen Trümper, scientific volunteer at the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz.
What habitats looked like in the geological past is often only sketchily preserved in the fossil record. Using the example of the black pebble stems from Manebach (Thuringia), the lecture takes the audience on a journey into the fascinating micro and macro world of the Permian. Using the 298 million year old deep black pebble logs, the speaker shows how methods of sedimentology, palaeontology and chemical analysis can be used to derive clues for the reconstruction of former habitats. The lecture shows that microorganisms make a decisive contribution to the detailed preservation of organisms.
To mark the city's 875th anniversary, the Museum für Naturkunde and the Abendgymnasium Chemnitz (Chemnitz Evening High School) invite you to a theatre performance at 8pm, also in the TIETZ event hall.

The evening will end musically with the a capella quartet "Vocalpatrioten".
