The truth dies first - language and media in war
Adult education centre: Online lecture with discussion, 19 January, from 7 to 8.30 pm
On Thursday, 19 January, from 7 to 8.30 pm, interested parties are invited to the online lecture "The truth dies first - language and media in war". Multimedia journalist and managing director of the electronic media school in Potsdam-Babelsberg, Benjamin Denes, will talk about the role of social media in wars: How do they influence reporting? How can journalists report appropriately on wars in real time?
Participation is free of charge. Registration is possible until 12 noon on the day of the event at www.vhs-chemnitz.de/kurs/W221M105 or by telephone on 0371 488-4343. The access data will be sent to all registered participants by e-mail at least three hours before the start of the event.
The war in Ukraine clearly shows that the internet has now become the most important channel for reporting. Social media play a key role as a centre of information, discussion and opinion-forming. Benjamin Denes' lecture will show how the language and time pressure in social media influence reporting and what challenges journalists have to overcome in this context.
