The TIETZ in Chemnitz
Events on the history of a department store that shaped the city's business life for decades - from 24 April
From 24 April, the adult education centre will be presenting five events in which the eventful history of the former department stores' will be presented in connection with the fate of the Tietz, Fürstenheim and Müller families.
Mittweida historian Dr Jürgen Nitsche uses numerous photographs, documents and memories of contemporary witnesses to bring to life what happened in what was once "Saxony's largest and most distinguished commercial building".
The topics of the evenings:
24 April: The Tietz family and their involvement in Saxony
8 May: The company H. & C. Tietz in Bamberg and its involvement in Chemnitz: 1904 - 1913
15 May: The company H. & C. Tietz builds in Chemnitz: 1913 - 1938
22 May: The staff at Tietz department stores'
29 May: The TIETZ and its subsequent use: 1939 - 2004
