The Stadtwirtschaft introduces itself - Stadtwerkstatt is opened

On Thursday, 23 February, from 4 to 7 p.m., the neighbourhood and interested parties are invited to the "Stadtwerkstatt" on the Stadtwirtschaft site to find out about the current status of the project, upcoming opportunities to participate in the site design and the expression of interest procedure for future tenants.
Representatives of the media are also cordially invited.
The programme
From 4 to 5.30 p.m., the Stadtwirtschaft team will provide on-site insights into three topics: The first topic deals with the presentation of the concept of the new Stadtwirtschaft and the construction process. This will be followed by an introduction to the opportunities for participation in the design of the area, the buildings and the utilisation of the rooms. In the future, for example, it will also be about having a say and participating in the areas of façade design and urban gardening. The last part officially opens the expression of interest procedure for prospective tenants. "If you are interested in becoming part of a creative courtyard community with many makers and are looking for space to realise your own idea and possible cooperation partners, this is the right place for you," says Paul Marcion, project manager of the Kreative Chemnitz e. V. team at Stadtwirtschaft.
Afterwards, between 5.30 and 7 p.m., there will be an opportunity to meet current and future tenants, talk about the location, the participation process and the expression of interest procedure at themed tables or take part in an illuminated tour of the site. Light and sound will stimulate the imagination of what it will be like when creative makers are at work in the buildings.

Opening of the Stadtwerkstatt
The "Stadtwerkstatt" will be opened during the event. An important component of the development concept adopted by the city council will thus become reality. As a central location for information and participation, the site will be jointly activated and designed from here in the coming years. In addition, the "Stadtwerkstatt" will in future be the contact point for prospective tenants and questions relating to the Stadtwirtschaft project.
About the location
In the coming years, a cultural incubator - Die Stadtwirtschaft - will be created on the site of the former city cleaning plant, which was built in 1891 in Chemnitz's working-class neighbourhood of Sonnenberg.
This intervention area will be developed in several construction phases into a place for creative makers and with many offers for the neighbourhood and the entire city. To this end, Chemnitz City Council adopted a development concept in 2021, which will be implemented in phases. The refurbishment of House A began in November 2022 as the second construction phase, and three more will begin in 2023. By 2025, spaces for creative makers will be created in five low-threshold refurbished buildings in the Stadtwirtschaft, comprising three themed courtyards covering almost 6,000 square metres. A neighbourhood canteen and a communal event space will offer many opportunities for social interaction.
