The splendour and misery of walking upright

On Thursday, 17 June, from 7.30 to 9 pm, philosopher Kurt Bayertz will give an online lecture on the concept of the "upright gait", which has shaped intellectual history since ancient times.

Posture strongly determines the human self-image and is still expressed in politics today in the "upright" person as a metaphor and symbol for a dignified life.
The question is: What makes a person human? What elevates them - in the truest sense of the word - above all other living beings? A common answer since antiquity has been: "the upright gait".
Kurt Bayertz is Professor Emeritus of Practical Philosophy at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. His book "Der aufrechte Gang. A History of Anthropological Thought" was honoured with the Tractatus Prize for Philosophical Essay Writing in 2013.
The event is part of the series "vhs.wissen live - the digital science programme" as a cooperation between the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre and the Erding and SüdOst Adult Education Centres in the district of Munich.
