The Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites you to watch the film "The Power of the Weak" on 8 October, 6.45 to 8.15 pm, followed by a discussion with filmmaker Tobias Kriele in course room 4.07 at the TIETZ. Admission is free of charge. Due to the limited number of places, registration is strongly recommended at www.vhs-chemnitz.de or 0371 488 4343.
The documentary film, which was made in Cuba in 2014, portrays Jorge Jérez Beliasario, or Jorgito for short. He was born with a severe physical disability. From birth, Jorgito and his family received support from the Cuban education and healthcare system. Thanks to this solidarity and his willpower, Jorgito developed amazingly against all the odds. As a schoolboy, he therefore decides to give something back to his country and its people out of gratitude for the support he has received.
Tobias Kriele's film traces Jorgito's journey and how he deals with his fate. The film also provides insights into Cuba today, in particular into the ideas of education and inclusion of people with disabilities there. Following the film (52 minutes, Spanish with German subtitles), there will be an opportunity to talk to the filmmaker Tobias Kriele.
This event is a co-operation of the Cuba Sí - Regional Group Chemnitz and the Adult Education Centre Chemnitz.
