The new woman and her counterpart
Equal Opportunities Officer: Lecture with Prof.in Dr.in Ulrike Brummert - on 21 August, 6 pm, Museum Gunzenhauser
On Wednesday 21 August at 6 pm, interested parties are invited to a lecture on "The new woman and her counterpart" by Prof. Dr Ulrike Brummert from the Institute for European Studies and Historical Sciences (IESG) at Chemnitz University of Technology at the Gunzenhauser Museum, Stollberger Straße 2. Admission is free of charge.
Representatives of the press are cordially invited.
Prof. Dr Ulrike Brummert: "The attributions of what constitutes or should constitute a woman have been numerous, arbitrary, striking, contradictory, categorical and flowery throughout the centuries in Europe. The power of definition was and is male, through which society as such determines what is to be seen, understood and categorised as female or male. However, the structural upheavals at the beginning of the 20th century also lead to uncertainties in the negotiation of gender relations.
The lecture explores the question of whether the power of the gaze of the Roaring Twenties creates gender disorder: Who are the new woman and her counterpart in the spotlight and in the shadows? We reflect the gaze of the images in painting and photography on selected exhibits in the exhibition itself and confront them with other contemporary representations in search of the images behind the images..."
While strolling through the exhibition "Sieh dir die Menschen an - das neusachliche Typenportrait in der Weimarer Zeit", participants can also talk to the curators of the Gunzenhauser Museum, who will be happy to answer questions about the exhibition concept.
The joint event organised by Pia Hamann, Equal Opportunities Officer for the City of Chemnitz, colleagues from Chemnitz University of Technology and the Gunzenhauser Museum will be held under the motto "Mirroring Images Together - Seeing - Hearing - Speaking - Discussing". Seeing - Listening - Talking - Discussing - Enjoying" will end in the evening with a cold drink, a small snack and good conversation.
